Dear
Editor,
I wish
to commend you for your editorial headlined, “The
Credibility and Integrity of Institutions” [Volume 9 Number
429, July 20, 2008].
You
have forcefully and intelligently advocated that the pillar
of democratic institutions is trust and confidence. When the
trust and confidence of the governed is affected,
democracies tend to degenerate and decay - they turn into
dictatorships.
Time
and again, many have questioned the credibility of the
institutions in Ethiopia. The government is only as good as
the institutions it represents. I am dismayed, once again,
to witness that our country has been blighted by so many
problems, all of which are caused by Ethiopians.
You
have written a significant editorial, and I wish to take
this opportunity to congratulate you.
