At last, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE)
officially ended the registration of parties running
in the May 2010 election on February 22, 2010. The
registration of voters ended the same day.
Candidates are being fielded by 57 parties, with the
Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF)
fielding the most, closely followed by the Forum for
Federal and Democratic Dialogue. The two have
brought forward 460 and 396 candidates for the
Federal Parliament elections, respectively, followed
by a wider margin by the All Ethiopia Unity Party (AEUP),
Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP), and the Coalition
for Unity and Democracy (CUD), which are fielding
295, 231 and 143 candidates, respectively. At the
time these figures were compiled, the NEBE was yet
to receive the data for last few days of
registration. |
